WICKED
Hosted by COCA on June 18, this 90-minute dance class had 37 participants of all ages! Casey Quinn, a member of the WICKED touring cast taught choreography from the show and held a Q&A session during the last 10 minutes of class. Casey shared that she has been dancing "since I was born," because grandma and mom were both dancers and ran their own studio. After heading off to New York and getting an assortment of dance jobs, she was cast in the Chicago production of WICKED and now tours in the 2nd National Touring Company. She shared that the good thing about touring is getting to see so many cities she might not ever get to otherwise. The bad thing about touring is "You live out of a suitcase! You go shopping and you want to buy something but it might not fit in the suitcase."

GREASE
Friday, January 15, 2010
Hosted by COCA, 27 student and professional dancers participated in a class taught by Kelly Felthous (Marty) of the GREASE touring company. Class included choreography from the high school dance scene from GREASE (hand-jive and all!) Kelly, a veteran of Broadway auditions, also ran the class through a typical professional dance audition session. Ms. Felthous has toured professionally since the age of 8 and offered some excellent advice on preparing for and sustaining a career in musical theatre.

Phantom of the Opera
October 4, 6, & 8, 2009
High School students from STAGES Performing Arts Academy and COCA enjoyed a three day class learning more about The Phantom of the Opera production playing the Fabulous Fox Theatre. Many thanks go to the touring production's Make-Up Supervisor Rudy Guerrero (pictured at left) and his assistants Jenn Chin and Jennifer Light for a make-up demonstration/class as well as a backstage tour to see the costumes, wigs and other technical elements of the show. Students also recieved a personalized tour of the Fabulous Fox Theatre with Fox Theatre house staff and a Q&A session with Assistant Stage Manager Anne Michelson while watching the show's many technicians prepare the stage for an evening's performance.
Special thanks to our "model" for the make-up demonstration, Michael Dorn (pictured above, seated) who came to us via the Gateway Mens' Chorus.
